The National Farm to School Network is a collaborative project of the Center for Food and Justice, a division of the Urban and Environmental Policy Institute at Occidental College and the Community Food Security Coalition. The goals of the National Farm to School Network are to support state and national policy efforts to promote Farm to School, increase visibility for Farm to School programs, update and revise existing Farm to School resources, develop networking systems among existing Farm to School programs to share information and lessons learned, and provide training and technical assistance related to Farm to School. Eight regional lead agencies have been established to lead Farm to School efforts in the states that comprise the regions. USDA Farm to School

The Farm to School initiative is an effort to connect schools with local farms in order to serve healthy meals using locally produced foods. USDA is supporting Farm to School efforts through a number of initiatives. Recently, the USDA established “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food” (Clck here to visit this site) an initiative which focuses on the importance of understanding where food comes from and how it gets to our plate. In response to the growing demand for Farm to School activities, the "USDA Farm to School Team" was developed. The “USDA Farm to School Team” (Click here to visit this site) is conducting site visits to 15 school districts in 9 areas across the country to analyze and assess variables that support or deter Farm to School activities, both from the school and farmer perspectives, and the effects the activities have had on the school and the community. Long-term goals of the Farm to School Team include identifying obstacles to Farm to School programs and suggesting solutions and providing resources, information, and technical assistance to assist schools and farmers in the development and maintenance of Farm to School activities.
