Parents Kit Cover, illustrationSchools throughout Pennsylvania are implementing creative and successful strategies to promote healthier eating and physical activity for students. We’d like to share these strategies with other schools. A collection of Promising Practices submitted on the Project PA website were distributed at a Wellness Policy conference sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and Pennsylvania Action for Healthy Kids (PA AFHK) in the Spring of 2007.

“Promising Practices” were submitted in the following categories:

  1. Nutrition Education
  2. Physical Activity
  3. Other School-Based Activities
  4. Nutrition Guidelines Implementation
  5. Teacher/Staff Involvement/Support
  6. Parent Involvement/Support
  7. Student Involvement/Support
  8. School Health Councils and Coordinated School Health
  9. Use of Accountability Block Funding, Social and Health Category, to Support Local Wellness Policy Implementation
  10. Incorporation of Student Health Services and/or the Local Wellness Policies into School’s Five-Year Strategic Plan
